Cooking session with my step-Grandson

Had my step grandson up for the night on friday.I decided i would show him how to make pizza. When i told him that we were going to make pizza he said he already knew how to.He had made pizza at school but it was made with potato and was more like a mini crumpet. He then said were we going to put on the toppings and i said, yes but after we have made the pizza.I got him to weigh out the ingredients then had him mix them together to make the dough. When he started to get sticky he didn't particularly enjoy it,but then again i think we are all like that when we first mix by hand. When he had made it into a ball i got him to put it on the baking mat and showed him how to knead it.He did it for a minute or two but groaned when i said it needed to be done for ten minutes.Eventually we were done and he put it to prove whilst i made more dough for me and Mrs Monday Baker. We left this to prove then i said would he like to make a chocolate cake.He said yes so i showed him how, getting him involved again.I did cheat slightly though.I had brought one of those all in one cake mixes,'Hale and Hearty-deliciously wholesome Classic Chocolate Cake Mix'.Just add margarine and 2 eggs.Well it made it easier for him to do.Its a good way to start learning. We put it in the oven and i told him to make sure he knew what time he had put it in and let me know when 25 minutes was up.All i can say is it is a good job i checked.Actually i forgot as well and it was in the oven for nearly 40 minutes, and amazingly it wasn't burnt. In fact it still needed cooking for another 5 minutes.
Eventually the dough had risen and i got him to roll it out on the baking mat to make it into a fairly round shape(That's the beauty of homemade pizzas they are not perfect but look so much better for it).We then cut up all the ingredients for the toppings,
Mozzarella,Sundried tomatoes,Ham(A pack of cheap basic but still as nice),
Grated some cheddar to sprinkle on the top and finally chopped some basil to add a little bit of colour. We let him put what ingredients he wanted onto his base then we whacked it into the oven.
25 minutes or so later out comes a lovely fresh looking pizza, which he wolfed down and said he loved.
Well you can't beat homemade pizza and it was probably the first time he had made something quite like that and then eaten it.
Afterwards we finished off with a piece of chocolate cake and were left with one happy step-grandson.
