It had been suggested to me that it was fairly easy to make Easter eggs so i decided i would have a go.I bought a mould kit for 59p at The Works. If i didn't have much success at that price it wouldn't have cost me much. The kit consisted of 2 moulds for making a large egg and 2 moulds for making 18 little eggs.
I melted the chocolate for the large egg in a glass bowl and used a pastry brush to paint the chocolate on the mould. When i had done both moulds i placed them in the fridge to harden for about 10 minutes.I repeated the process four times.
I then melted more chocolate and spooned this into the little egg moulds. These two moulds were then placed in the fridge to harden for 30 minutes or so.
When these were ready i melted a small amount of chocolate and brushed a thin layer on one of the flat sides of the mini eggs before pressing the other half together.I held this for a few seconds then repeated this process with the rest. These were then chilled for a few minutes before i placed them into one of the big egg halves.I then brushed the edge of the egg half with chocolate before taking the other half and placing it carefully onto the edge.I held it for a few seconds then placed it back into the fridge to chill.
Words Of Advice
1.The edges of the big egg halves must be smooth or else you will struggle to get the edges to line up.
2.The little eggs must be smoothed level in the moulds or else you will find it difficult to join both halves together.
3.Watch where you place your halves when you take them out of the moulds.I placed them onto a glass chopping board that had obviously had something warm on it and they began to melt.
The egg didn't turn out to bad and the effort was well worth it to see the look on Mrs Monday Bakers face.
