Helpful Hints And Tips 2-Getting Your Dough To Rise Effectively

As regular readers of my post will know i have trouble with getting my dough to rise.I live in a fairly cool place where it can sometimes be warmer outside than inside.I also don't have an airing cupboard that i can use either.

My original solution used to be to put the oven on and either put the dough in a bowl and place it in the smaller side oven(I have a large oven which has a big main oven and a smaller oven next to it) or place the bowl on top of the oven after it had warmed up.This worked reasonably well but obviously having my oven on for 3 hours or so was not very cost effective.

This was a problem that used to continually frustrate me until i made some wholemeal rolls(See my 'Wholemeal Rolls' post).Yet again i was experiencing problems in getting my dough to rise, then suddenly a light bulb came on in my head.

I boiled a kettle of water, then filled my washing up bowl in the kitchen sink about half full.I then took my pizza tray with the holes in it and placed it over the bowl of hot water.I then placed mt covered bowl on top of the pizza tray.About an hour later i looked at the bowl and i had nicely risen dough. When i had made my dough into rolls i placed them on the baking trays, replaced the water in the bowl with more hot water, placed the trays over the sink, covered them and again lovely risen and proved rolls.

I tried this method again when i made my Cheese,Herb and Onion Rolls(Just to make sure it really did work and wasn't a lucky one off) and had success again. The result is one very happy Monday Baker.
